Overview

This isn’t your average Vietnam tour. Across Vietnam is an epic 18-day Vietnam South to North tour that cuts through the country’s heart — from the buzzing alleys of Saigon to the limestone peaks of Ha Giang. Along the way, you’ll drift through floating markets in the Mekong, cook with locals in Hoi An, crawl through war tunnels, and trek through rugged karst mountains.Ā

You’ll explore imperial citadels, boat across hidden lakes, descend into ancient caves, and cruise past Halong Bay’s towering cliffs. The final stretch — in Vietnam’s remote northern highlands — is where the road gets real: high passes, winding trails, ethnic villages, and jaw-dropping canyon views await.Ā

This is Vietnam beyond the cities — for those who seek culture, challenge, and connection with the land and its people.Ā

And like all of our journeys, it’s fully customizable. Want to extend your time in the north or switch out a city for a beach day? Just let us know — we’ll shape the story around you.Ā

Why You’ll Love This TripĀ

  • Explore Cu Chi’s secret war tunnels and join locals for Saigon sidewalk coffeeĀ
  • Drift through the lush Mekong Delta by sampan, discovering craft villages and floating markets
  • Ā Learn to cook Vietnamese dishes in Hoi An and stroll through its ancient trading portĀ
  • Trek the jaw-dropping karst landscapes of Ha Giang and sail through Tu San Canyon on the Nho Que RiverĀ
  • Discover two UNESCO-listed cave systems in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National ParkĀ
  • Cruise across Halong Bay’s emerald waters and sleep aboard a traditional wooden junkĀ

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City

Xin chĆ o! Welcome to the starting point of your Vietnam South to North tour! After landing in Ho Chi Minh City, your guide will meet you and transferred to your hotel in the city center. Depending on your arrival time, stretch your legs with a stroll near the Saigon River or simply unwind after the flight.

Included: Private airport transfer Ā· Hotel accommodation

Cruise sailing along Saigon River at night under the city’s colorful lights.

Day 2 – Cu Chi Tunnels & Saigon City Sights (B, L)

This morning, you’ll journey to the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City to visit the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels — an extraordinary underground network used by Vietnamese fighters during the war. Walk through portions of the tunnels, see hidden trapdoors and underground chambers, and gain a deeper understanding of the resilience and tactics that shaped modern Vietnam.

After returning to the city, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing your exploration. Your afternoon includes visits to key landmarks: the Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, and the Reunification Palace, the former presidential home of South Vietnam. At the War Remnants Museum, powerful exhibits offer a raw and moving look at the cost of conflict.

To close the day, you’ll join your guide for a sidewalk coffee — as you sip, you’ll learn about local slang, cultural quirks, and the everyday rhythms of city life from a local’s perspective.

Upon arrival, you’ll board a boat and cruise through narrow canals lined with nipa palms and riverbank villages.

Along the way, stop to see how locals make bricks by hand, sample fresh coconut candy, and visit family-run workshops. Then hop on a xe lƓi (local motor cart) or bicycle to explore the countryside, passing rice paddies and garden farms.
After a traditional southern lunch, relax with a sampan boat ride through quiet backwaters before continuing on to Can Tho, the capital of the delta. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle in for the evening, where a stroll along the riverside offers a glimpse of Mekong life at dusk.

After returning to your hotel in Can Tho for breakfast and check-out, travel back to Ho Chi Minh City for your flight to Da Nang. Upon arrival, your driver will transfer you to Hoi An — a lantern-filled town by the Thu Bon River. Take the evening to relax and soak up the town’s peaceful ambiance.

From there, board a boat and glide along the Thu Bon River toward Van Lang Fishing Village and the lush Bay Mau Water Coconut Forest. Surrounded by mangrove palms and narrow canals, this area was once a wartime refuge and is now home to generations of fishing families. Climb into a basket boat and float through the forest, where local rowers share stories, demonstrate traditional net casting, and maybe even show off some spinning tricks!

Later, join a local family for a hands-on cooking class, preparing signature Hoi An dishes like Tam Hữu (shrimp, pork, and herbs on skewers) and BÔnh Xèo (crispy Vietnamese pancakes). After lunch, enjoy a calming foot soak with medicinal herbs, a time-honored wellness tradition.

In the afternoon, explore the heritage heart of Hoi An. Visit the Quan Cong Temple, built in honor of a Chinese general known for loyalty and courage, and wander through the ornate Phuc Kien Assembly Hall. Cross the famous Japanese Covered Bridge, and visit the 200-year-old Tan Ky Ancient House, filled with original architecture and family heirlooms. Continue to the Hien Luong Bridge over the Ben Hai River, the symbolic 17th Parallel, painted half red and half blue to symbolize Vietnam’s former division and eventual reunification.

In the afternoon, explore the Vinh Moc Tunnels — a vast underground network dug by villagers to withstand relentless bombing. Extending nearly 30 meters deep with multiple levels, these tunnels housed entire families, complete with kitchens, wells, and even maternity rooms. Walking through the dim passageways offers a powerful glimpse of resilience and survival.

Late afternoon, arrive in Phong Nha, where you’ll check into your hotel near the national park’s edge. Enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by limestone mountains.

This sky-high road snakes along limestone cliffs above the Nho Que River, offering panoramic views of deep canyons, razor-edged peaks, and tiny villages clinging to the mountainside. Known as the “King of Passes,” Ma Pi Leng is part of the Happiness Road — a historic route built by hand in the 1960s by thousands of ethnic minority workers.Ā

At a scenic viewpoint, pause at the Youth Monument, dedicated to those who carved this incredible road into the rock. From here, you’ll begin a short but spectacular trek along the Sky Walk, a narrow trail etched into the cliffs with sweeping views on all sides.
