Overview

Escape the bustle of Ho Chi Minh City and step into the calm, green expanse of the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve — a UNESCO-protected wetland where mangroves stretch to the horizon and wildlife thrives in peaceful silence. This journey brings you through shaded canals, bird sanctuaries, and quiet forest trails, offering an intimate look at one of southern Vietnam’s most unique ecosystems.

Itinerary

Just a short drive from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio (40 km away ~ 1.5 hour driving), a vast wetland recognized by UNESCO as part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Home to over 200 species of fauna and 52 species of flora, this area is often called the “green lung” of southern Vietnam — where nature thrives and time slows down.

Depart from Saigon and head to Vam Sat, Can Gio. Take the Canoe trip along the immerse river to go to the bat area. Here you’ll board a rowing boat and cruise along the river through tranquil waterways fringed by mangrove trees. You can explore the natural landscape and its inhabitants such as the large fruit bats. A short trek will take you to the nearby bird reserve during the nesting season where a watchtower will allow you to observe thousands birds flying around ( between May and October ). Have lunch at a local eco restaurant.

After lunch, keep walking to the natural crocodile lake. While out of the lake, occasionally, you may see wild monkeys jumping out from the forest.
